It’s the most wonderful time of the year... Well, almost. It's June and that means its Pride month. I love Pride month. Most people who aren't in the know or are on the outside looking in don't and could never understand the beauty of this festival. What they see is men running around wearing rainbow flags, showing off their bodies, and shaking their asses to a remix of whatever song is hot that week. What most don't see is that this is a celebration of us. It is a celebration of who we are. It is a celebration of those who have struggled to get us to this point. It is a celebration of what we will achieve as a people. Unfortunately, we live in a world that doesn't always accept homosexuals as people. Sometimes they see us a novelty. Sometimes they see us as a problem or a blemish. Sometimes they just outright find ways to hurt us. We are a people with a strong, rich, and powerful past and that is something worth celebrating.
I want to say thank everyone who came before me and my friends, those of you who stood up and screamed "Gay is okay.", "I'm here I'm queer, get used to it.” I want to thank those of you who said having a nightclub raided by the police for indecency is NOT okay. Thank you for giving me the right to go into a club and have drinks with my guys. Thank you for making it okay for me to have a career. Thank you for making it okay for me to be able to post this blog. Gays have struggled and we are continuing the fight to earn the right to be the way we were created. A right that should not involve this conflict but unfortunately it does. These days are a celebration of this. A celebration of every victory, past, present, and future. I look forward to the day I can walk down the street holding my husband's hand as our kids ride their bikes beside us in the middle of suburbia. So please gather your friends, your family, and everyone you know and join in the celebration of our pride!
This last weekend my boys and I went to Austin Texas to participate in the pride festival and oh man it was a good time. I booked our room on one of those you websites where you pick the price range and area and they book the room we got pretty lucky and ended up in a Staybridge Suites which was perfect for the four of us who were supposedly supposed to be staying there. A queen bed for the queens and a pull out sofa for the.. pull outs? (That one didn't work, I'm aware.) But it was a great room, kitchen to store our booze, wash our dishes, and rest our heads. (Though the tub wouldn't drain and when we pulled what we thought was a hairball out, we got a wookie.) The first night of partying was out of control at Kiss and Fly. The boys were hot, the music was hot, my friend Logan was hot (No really, that boy was drenched in sweat!), and all of us were a hot mess! We danced until the early morning, shaking our asses and enjoying each other’s company. But the best part of the whole night was we went to Taco Cabana (A 24 fast food Mexican place) and had a cute little black girl as our window attendant she was so vibrant and fun and when my friend Alejandro asked her "What's your name girl?" She made our night with one word. "Precious!" We met Precious! The rest of the night never happened. I'm not sure what all this talk about some quesadilla on the floor and my face is all about. If you don't remember it didn't happen!
The next day the boys and I put on our gay attire and took Austin by storm. We saw the capitol where Logan and Alejandro started to draft their movie Baby Senators and took in the sites that were Austin Texas. My roommate Mason Wyler and another friend of ours joined us for lunch at a little hole in the wall Chili place. (Great food, but if you're a bottom boy I'd suggest you pass on this one.) After a quick nap and marathon shower, (Yes it is possible to shower four full grown men in ten minutes!) and some primping we were off to what could possibly be the lamest pride parade in history. (Sorry Austin.)
I met up with porn stars Dominic Brown, Jayden Grey, Cameron Marshall, Parker Perry, and Mason Wyler and we partied the night away at Club Rain. (Kiss and Fly was so packed that everyone was having trouble breathing! It was nuts!) Rain was packed but the porn stars took over a corner with a cage and a stripper pole and made our own private VIP room. (No we're not snobs; just no one approached us except to take photos!) It was a blast! We partied all night! Though, I've come to find as far as looks go Austin's gay crowd is seriously lacking, except at Whataburger. That's right... The hottest gay men in Austin are at Whataburger at 3am.
Austin was a blast! We stopped to go caving and shopping on our way home as well. (Relevant detail because here is a ton of photos from our weekend!)
Peace Out Bro Scout,
Porter Wescott
