I've said it once and I'll say it again, Pride is one of my favorite times of the year. This weekend was the crown jewel of Texas Prides, Houston. Houston has one of the biggest and one of the only nighttime parades in the country and I love it. Now, if I were to tell you all about the parade I'd be lying to your face since I was only able to see it as I drove by since I was at a wedding out of town all day. (Celebrating heterosexual unions when I should have been celebrating the fight for homosexual equality. But more on that in another blog.) My pride started late Saturday night at Meteor. (The lounge the boys and I call home.) It was packed and anyone who is anyone in Houston was there. (When you see the man who owns most of gay Houston there, you know it is a big night.) I wasn't feeling the bar, it just felt weird. It felt like everyone from my past was in one room and I wasn't sure how I felt about it. Logan and Tye showed up first out of the boys, which is good because I hadn't seen Logan in a few weeks and had lots to tell him. So it was a good time, I've been trying to be civil with Van, if you hadn't gathered from some postings and my twitter, we've decided to just be friends after being unable to get through some stuff. (But like I said, we're still friends.) When all the other boys got there it was a little strange because Van's new guy, and my ex, Shepard was with them. Now I have nothing against Van's new guy J.T. but I don't think J.T. knows its okay to make with the friendlies with me. Now Shepard on the other hand, I'm just not ready for all that at this point in my life.
Despite being bombarded with ghosts of relationships past I had a good time. I met Roman Heart and Benjamin Bradley, they were performing at Meteor that night. It's always good to meet other industry guys especially ones that are willing to give you hints and share some contact information with you. But what's even better about being around these guys is that they understand what it's like. I'm not saying I'm different than you guys, but there is certain balance of being Porter and &#*@%&#@. It is especially comforting now that I am getting recognized out on a regular basis and it makes it easier to sink into the shadows with these guys every now and then for some tips on how to handle it. Though, I encourage coming up to me and talking, I love talking to my fans!
The night just felt weird all around though. (The boys agree.) Unfortunately, the guys had been hitting the pride festivities pretty hard so by 2 am they were ready to turn in for the night but I was just getting started! The porn boys headed to South Beach (The Local club in Houston where you can shake ya ass till 5am) and danced for a bit before heading over to a private party where I hung out with Van and some of the other Meteor bartenders.
The next night wrapped up the Houston Pride festivities with an over the the top foam party at South Beach. I kid you not, these bubbles got to be at least ten feet tall at points. There were times that the bubbles completely would engulf me and my friends and we had to find each other by our delighted shrills. If you've never been to a foam party I'll tell ya that it feels like you're a kid again going to a really cool birthday party. We were drenched, slimy, having trouble breathing but it was a blast! It was intense! Lesbians were making love (Is eating someone out inside giant soap bubbles considered making love?) to my right, one of my friends I'm pretty sure was totally naked under the bubbles to my left, and me, I was a perfect angel. (Keep in mind it is opposite day.) Though there was a bit of tragedy mixed in with the night... Dash refused to let Logan hang on to his credit card and ID. (We were all skimpy bathing suits, Logan had on gym shorts with pockets.) Dash was dancing and his cards slipped out of shoe somewhere on a huge flooded dance floor that was covered in ten foot mountains of suds. We had to get on our hands and knees around hundreds of dancing men and slosh through water and combat the bubbles that consumed us. Somehow Logan found the credit card and at the end of the night some kind soul turned in the ID. (Thank God because he needs those for our Disney World vacation we're taking in a few weeks!) Overall it was fantastic and worth the exhaustion! (I'm convinced that the bubbles were mixed with Nyquil!)
It was a fantastic pride and I can't wait for next year! As always... A slew of photos!
Peace Out Bro Scout,
Porter Wescott
