A Few Thoughts On Love

Since I'm about to make the introduction of someone very important to me in the next few days I was looking for quotes about love. I searched and searched and couldn't find anything. I thought maybe I could quote that love is a battlefield, but that'd be too cliche, I thought I could quote Frank Sintra or Ella Fitzgerald but that could be considered overplayed... Then I came across something Logan had written concerning his thoughts on love and I had to share it with you. So here are Logan Ash's thoughts on love:

Walt Disney is history’s greatest liar. When we were young he filled our heads full of the fantastical ideas that one day we will meet someone who will love us so fully and so deeply we will never have any troubles again. On top of that, this all happens in an hour and a half. What Disney doesn’t tell us is that Prince Charming has a drinking problem, Beast beats Belle when he is angry, and Prince Naveen is a compulsive gambler.
There are no happily ever afters, there are no perfect lovers among us, there is just this. Love is hard work. Love is never easy. Love is beautiful, but it is not without its fair share of heartache and sorrow. Very few of us will meet our frog prince at a southern gala, even less of us will be kissed from a long slumber to awaken to the man of our dreams, and absolutely none of us will teach a beast in an enchanted castle to love. But why would we want this perfect romance from the start? Why do we want to skip the bulk of the story and go straight to the end? Love is a wonderful adventure. It is full of its ups, the first kiss, the first touch, the first time you wake up next to someone and they smile back at you. Love is full of its downs, the times we forget to say I love you enough, the times you let a mess turn into a screaming match, the times you say ‘This just isn’t working.’
Love is an addiction. It is our nature to seek the companionship it brings and to look for it wherever we can. How often do we confuse love with lust though? That beautiful boy with the perfect smile may compare nothing to the average Joe with his stomach hanging over his belt. Maybe the perfect smile makes you happy for a few months but we pass up the one who truly loves us because he believed Taco Bell’s fourth meal was a mandated law. We are addicted to the rush of falling in love and not the act of being in love. The idea is absurd in itself, to fall in love. What if both of us were to fall in love, who would be there to catch us. This is why so many relationships fail because we are so busy with the act of falling in love we never catch ourselves and allow ourselves to be in love.
The act of being in love is a much braver feat than actually falling in love. When we are in love we know that everything will be all right. When we are in love nothing else in the room matters, we can be in a room of beautiful people who want to ‘sex us up’ or go play seven minutes in heaven but when we are totally in love we do not see the other people. When they are in love with us they do not see them either. When we are in love there are no other options considered except who we love. When we are in love we do not see breaking up or calling it quits a possibility. We only see finding a way to make it work.
I have recently nicknamed myself Frankenheart and through this I have come to conclusion that all of us are Frankenhearts. A Frankenheart is someone who has thought they were in love and given their heart to someone who did nothing more than take a piece of it for themselves. They ripped a hole in the shape of themselves and kept it for a while. The more we give away our hearts the more and more pieces we allow to be removed from it. Now we are essentially just pieces of what we once were. We are scattered around the Earth each piece either still with the one we allowed to take it or discarded somewhere in the dark to rot. But the beauty of being a Frankenheart is that one day, someone will brave the unknown, they will quest wherever they are needed to gather every piece of our hearts. They will take the pieces and they will kiss each piece gently and stitch them back together. Once this task is done this person will give you the greatest gift they can ever give, your heart back to you, complete and whole.
If Mr.Disney was right love would suck. Love would not be an adventure. How can we ever appreciate the one who loves us totally and completely if we do not hurt? How do we wake up every morning and smile at the snoring lump next to us if we are just handed love and don’t know how truly lucky we are to have that lump in our lives?
There is someone out there right now whose heart beats my name. There is someone out there right now who sees my face in their dreams even if they have no clue of who I am. There is someone out there I love and don’t even know it. I am heart broken, I am weak, I am weary, but I am so excited to keep going. A broken heart is not the end, a broken heart is the opportunity for a new adventure.
A pretty smart guy once defined love for me… And the more I dwell and reflect on what was said I know what love is…

Love is patient. Love is kind. Love does not envy. Love does not boast. Love is not proud. Love does not insist on its own ways. Love is not irritable. Love is not resentful. Love does not rejoice in wrong doings, but delights in the truth. Love bears all things. Love believes all things. Love hopes all things. But most of all Love Endures all things.

Here’s to your adventure friend.

I'm glad he wrote that because it hits the nail on the head for so many of us.
